"Hire for attitude train for ability", says Richard Branson. Finding the right staff means knowing the skills you need right now and the ones you can afford to develop over time. Judging "attitude" is about knowing the role you need to fill and finding people enthusiastically predisposed to these. Being aware of the skills you will need in the future allows you to find people whose ambitions align with your own. Nothing damages new staff morale faster than lack of clarity on the business' expectations of them.
