Tiso Gives Back to the Mountains

Building on half a century's experience of trading and mountaineering, Scottish retailer Tiso offers online customers the full lifestyle package

Tiso_Home_Page.JPGIt's not often we come across a business like Tiso, even in our Ecommerce Consultant series.

The company wields a strong half century of mountaineering and in-store trading knowledge and combines it seamlessly into a fantastic, engaging online shop that offers much more to customers that just stock.

Tiso.com offers the whole kit and caboodle in terms of both lifestyle and life-cycle when it comes to mountaineering and everything you need to do it, offering the clothes, the equipment and oodles of knowledge, advice, expertise in an impressive range of clever and helpful ways to draw in intrepid mountaineers and casual campers alike.

The Business

The businesses was founded by expert mountaineer and member of the Scottish Mountaineering Club Graham Tiso with his partner Maude and began trading in 1962 with the aim of filling a gaping hole in the market at that time for quality mountaineering equipment.

The business is family run to this day, currently headed by Graham and Maude's son Chris Tiso. The company currently boasts an impressive fourteen stores, including their current headquarters in Edinburgh and shops in England and Northern Ireland.

Ecommerce Offering

Online customers can browse the extensive range of stock by category such as clothing, camping, footwear, travel, cycling and publications. Stock can also be browsed by brand, and the range here is particularly impressive, with over 200 names in stock.

But equally impressive is the excellent range of services and extra features on the site and this is where Tiso really goes the extra mile to demonstrate the shear enthusiasm behind the operation.

The site oozes with the passion required to run a business with so many brands and customers who depend on you not only for deliveries and post-sale service, but also, literally, when it comes to life and limb in the hills.

...And Much More

Some of the many special services and features offered via the online shop include clinics and mountain skills courses, a camping guide, lectures, news items, a photo gallery on Flickr and an 'Ask the Expert' feature which includes staff tips, a buying guide and gear checklist to make choosing equipment that little bit easier for amateur customers.

These, honestly, are just a few of the many resources available.

These features are online alongsidet promotions such as offering sponsorship opportunities to athletes, expeditions and free wellies with selected festival tents, not to mention some good sales, wiht the current promotion offering up to 50% off on footwear, equipment and clothing.

Maybe it's partly our Edinburgh neighbourliness, but we suggest you go straight over and take a look for yourself. With a strong offering already across Scotland and a foothold in England and Northern Ireland, this company could well be one to watch out for in terms of high-growth in online sales.

The vision and passion are there and, believe us when we say it, so is the site.
