Talend Is Looking Shatteringly Good
As if the open-source data integration company wasn't already thriving, 2011 has so far seen Talend receive a slew of accolades and awards

At Open Plus, we've been excited about Talend for some time now. Of course that's partly because of the quality of Talend's products and solutions, but it also has a lot to do with the company's open-source policy, which has exemplified many of the industry's best characteristics.
But Talend isn't just about following the herd in this respect. The company offers a new and original vision, and this is reflected not only in the way technology is utilised but also in the business model.
And a look back across 2011 so far quickly tells us that we're not alone. Things are happening. The company has been getting serious recognition and it's becoming difficult to ignore.
Mentions, Accolades, Awards
In two recent posts, Talend blogger and marketer Yves referred, accurately as it happens, to what he likes to call the company's “Wall of Fame,” which has been filling up at an impressive rate over the last few months.
On 27th April Gartner Inc. included Talend in its list of 'Cool Vendors in Application and Integration Platforms, 2011.' This wasn't the first time the influential analyst firm took note of Talend: for the two previous years they were listed as 'Visionaries' in the 'Magic Quadrant for Data Integration.'
Earlier in the same month, Talend was nominated for The Telegraph's Tech Start-Up 100: Class of 2011. In conjunction with TechCrunch, the final Start-Up 100 was compiled by a panel of expert judges who went through submissions from entrepreneurs with bases across Europe.
Talend made the final 100, listed in the Enterprise: Security, Storage, Collaboration, Databases category.
'Shatters the traditional proprietary model'
As impressive as these mentions were, they came in the wake of prominent recognition in March which placed the company at the top of the open-source industry itself. Momentum Index, which ranks start-ups, compiled a ranked list of 96 open-source companies, placing Talend at the top with a Momentum Index number of 89.5, thirteen points clear of the runner up.
Also in March, market knowledge company Lead441 included Talend in its list of 'Hottest Companies in Silicon Valley'. Talend, according to Lead441, “shatters the traditional proprietary model by supplying open, innovative and powerful software solutions with the flexibility to meet the data management and application integration needs of all types of organizations.”
A Passion for Open Source
But in case you were worried, the Talend team aren't likely to rest on their laurels. Despite this latest near avalanche of recognition and honourable mention, the company would appear to have been regarding its Wall of Fame as "starting to gather (virtual) dust" since its previous update. And when was that? December 2010.
And that's what makes the difference with this dynamic and original company. Restless ambition with a passion for open-source, and a sense of mission to improve and occasionally defend it to an extent that few other companies are brave enough to.
We've been taking note of how companies like Red Hat, Rackspace, Alfresco and Pentaho have been doing this year. Many, no doubt, will also be watching Talend.
