When looking for online retailers to include in our Ecommerce Consultant showcases, we always have to strike a certain balance. Yes, we go online and have a good look around for online retailers worth writing about, but to a certain extent we also try to let them do the work.
Those really making a difference in online retail these days are the ones with a clear voice, who speak to their customers on a regular basis, telling them what's going on, through a number of channels.
Partypieces.co.uk
Party Pieces fit this bill perfectly, actively and energetically engaging customers on several levels, with competitions, polls, and videos. Their lively, regularly updated, and evidently popular blog, The Party Times, is a fantastic creation in its own right.
Established by Carole Middleton in 1987, the online business is a family-run partnership, operating out of attractive, converted farm buildings in West Berkshire.
While the shear diversity of party occasions in modern life naturally means that Party Pieces have a vast range of potential products to contend with, the catalogue is nevertheless marketed under a well thought out selection of traditional categories and clever niches.
'Appeal, Originality and Marketing Savvy'
Styled as the UK's leading party company, they stock everything from party bags to games, decorations, cakes, and baby fancy dress. For adult occasions such as weddings, anniversaries and hen nights, the company offers lanterns, drinks, serving wear, and loads more.
We were particularly impressed by their First Birthdays concept, a fresh idea with just about the right mix of appeal, originality and marketing savvy
Another intriguing aspect of the business is their themed party focus. The classic pirate party gets a look-in, along with more innovative concepts like Marvel, Hawaiian Beach, and even Super Mario parties.
Starlight Children's Foundation
And Party Pieces, like our showcase last week, don't keep their revenue, time and energy all to themselves either. Working together with the Starlight Children's Foundation to throw parties for sick and terminally ill children who remain in hospital over the holiday season, this is a business with a conscience and the initiative and wherewithall to do something about it.
